Where do sessions take place?
I see clients in my office at 18 Alva Street, EH2 4QG, in the West End of Edinburgh.
What happens at the consultation session?
This is a free, no obligation, session in which we’ll discuss your difficulties and what you’d like to get from therapy. It is also an opportunity for me to outline the CBT model and confirm that I think CBT is appropriate for your particular difficulties. It lasts between 30 and 60 minutes.
How long are sessions?
Each treatment session is one hour long.
Are the sessions confidential?
Yes. As a doctor I am bound by the GMC’s Code of Conduct which stipulates strict guidelines regarding confidentiality.
How many sessions will I need?
Obviously this varies from person to person and depends on the particular problem, but I’d normally suggest an initial course of 6 sessions, after which we can review progress. On average most people have between 6 and 12 sessions.
How often do I come?
I usually see people once a week to start with. However, as they progress sessions are usually less frequent.
How do I pay?
Payment is by cheque or cash in on the day, or you can book a “block” of 6 sessions in advance and receive a discounted rate (see my “Contact Me and Prices” page.
What is your cancellation policy?
There is no charge for a cancelled or rearranged session if you are able to give me 24 hours notice. Cancellation with 24 hours is subject to a discretionary charge of 50% of the session fee. If you have booked a block of sessions I will refund the full amount of any sessions that remain.
Do you prescribe medication?
No – I provide a psychological approach to tackling psychological and emotional problems. Please see your GP for advice regarding medication.
Do you undertake Medico-Legal work?
No. A solicitor is likely to have the contact details of doctors who do engage in this kind of work.
